DRIVING TO CAPPADOCIA

ISTANBUL . ANTALYA . CAPPADOCIA

The Route

I picked up a small truck in Antalya on Turkey's south coast and headed on a solo drive through the mountains and wilderness in the interior of Turkey to Cappadocia. At the time I hadn't realised Cappadocia is over 1000m in altitude and so I was woefully underprepared for the cold, there wasn't even a roof on the truck. It snowed whilst I was there and I ended up driving with all my clothes on with socks over my hands. Cappadocia itself is obviously a massive tourist destination but I was pleasantly surprised how untouched by tourism anywhere else on the drive was. Having my own method of transport in Cappadocia was unbelievable, it gave me the freedom to get as off the beaten track as one can get and avoid any other tourists.
On my way home I stopped over in Istanbul for a few days which I spent wandering through the backstreets, hanging out on rooftops & along the Bosphorous and sampling the local delicacies (kebabs, Turkish delight, seafood and a lotta coffee).
